We Need Your Help To Get Outdoors!
Every class has been set a challenge to create an outdoor learning space by Friday 2nd October. Being outdoors presents a significantly lower chance of Covid19 transmission. In addition to this, learning outdoors leads to higher levels of motivation, greater curiosity, increased physical activity and helps to promote educator and pupil wellbeing.
We are wanting to add some play and learning stations to our outdoor space to make it more exciting. The pictures below show some of the ideas that I would like to include.
If you or any member of your family can help to make something please send an email into school. If you find any resources around your house that we can use to make these areas please let us know for us to arrange storage in school. A 'socially distanced' DIY session could also be arranged for any keen builders to help get us started.
Some items that we need donated include:
- long sticks - for building dens/tepees and maths activities
- short sticks - for maths activities including place value, fraction walls and recording of sums. We can also use short sticks for story settings.
- Rope / string - for binding sticks together and making shapes, angles and lines
- tree stumps - for seats when reading and stepping stone courses
- cable spools - for tables and a science lab
- tyres - for see saws, seats and obstacle courses
- spirit level - for maths balance area
- Guttering - for water activities
- Stones/ pebbles - to create words, create poems and to use for multiplication/division grouping activities
- Planks of wood and crates - building balance areas, obstacle courses
- Plant pots and welly boots - for gardening activities
- Outdoor paint - for painting tyres and pallets
- Varnish - for weather proofing
- Any old blackboards
I look forward to seeing what you can find.
Thank you for your continued support.
Miss Mawhinney.
