PARK & STRIDE DAY - TUESDAY 28TH JANUARY 2020
As you may be aware, one of our Eco-Schools topics this year is TRANSPORT. Our target is to increase the number of children regularly walking, cycling or scooting to school and in doing so, relieve the congestion outside the school gates.
On Tuesday 21/1/20 we carried out an Eco-Schools Transport Survey. The results of this survey are as follows:
Type of transport |
Total no. of pupils |
car |
104 |
walk |
31 |
cycle |
3 |
scoot |
0 |
other |
0 |
Primary have been developing their maths skills by using the data collected to make bar graphs to show the most common modes of transport from different locations. Look out on the P4 page for the results!
As part of our Eco-Schools action, we will be holding a VPS Park & Stride morning once a month from January to June. The first of these will be held on Tuesday 28th January.
We would encourage those who live within walking distance of school to walk, cycle or scoot to school from your home on this day.
For those who live too far away or in a location which is unsafe to walk from, we would encourage you to join the park & stride group on Tuesday morning. A number of teachers will be meeting at the green area on Birch Crescent in The Moatlands between 8.30 and 8.45am. We will set off at 8.45am and walk to school via the pathway that leads out opposite school. Children in P4-7 are welcome to join us and P1-3 children are also welcome to join in accompanied by a parent/guardian. It should be a great start to the day, having fun with friends while getting some fresh air and exercise. Another transport survey will be carried out on Tuesday. We hope that everyone will get involved and the survey results will be posted on next week’s Principal’s Post!
