In P.4 our final topic is World War 2. We have been learning lots about W.W.2 - about air raids, shelters, rationing, evacuees, life on the front line / trenches and Dog Fights - battles between two or more planes.
It has been surreal to think that just a couple of minutes walk from our classroom are the remains of Ballyhalbert Airfield. We've looked at drone footage of Ballyhalbert today and compared this with the airfield must have been like back in wartime.
We recently took a class trip down to the war memorial where we met with Mr McKeown who told us a few more details about Ballyhalbert's role in W.W.2. It's incredible to think that the planes we've been drawing in art (Spitfires) once flew out of the airfield and off into battle!
