Computer Science Week!
This week (9th-13th Dec.) was Computer Science Week. In V.P.S. we took on a whole school project from Tinkerbots using 'My First Robot'. This robot journeyed through every class in the school, starting with Foundation Stage and finishing up with Key Stage 2.
This 207 piece robot was built by P.7. It revolves around 2 main Tinkerbots blocks: a red cube which controls the robot's brain, and a white cube - the driver which powers a motor driving 2 axels (these are connected to cogs that drive tracks). The pupils in P.7 split into small groups and followed onscreen instructions to build MFR's tracks, head and arms. Other attachments were built throughout the school as we completed levels.
The robot connects to a MyFirstRobot App via Bluetooth and can be driven using a touchscreen controller or programmed to perform tasks. We were particularly interested in the coding and each class completed levels to unlock new features - including new sounds, movements, speeds and loop features.
